President JK Employees Joint Action Cmmittee (EJAC ) Mohd Rafique Rather has stressed on the need to preserve and promote mother tongue.
February 21; In a press release from jammu Rafique Rather said that "when international day of mother tangue is being observed globally, it reminds us of the importance of mother tangue to preserve and protect our language, culture and heritage more importantly when we are caught in the era of cultural errossion through internet and social media plateforms.He said that our children are not inclined towards mother tongue and if it continues the days are not for when our mother tangue will be completely out of context.While refering to a UN report Rafique Rather that about 43% of 6000 languages spoken in the world are at the risk of being getting eliminated and added that since goverenement has recognised role and importance of mother tangue and has given it a prominent role in NEP 2021.., thus we need to put in our efforts in promoting regional languages to preserve and protect them.
Rafique Rather said that the aim behind the day is to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. Local languages are symbols of a collective identity of any culture or civilization and need to be promoted and preserved at all levels. More than just a means of communication, our mother languages connect us with our heritage and define our socio-cultural identity.
He stressed upon teaching community to take concrete measures for promotion and preservation of Kashmiri civilization which can be done by encouraging the languages like Kashmiri Dogri, Urdu, Gojri and other languages, which are local languages of Jammu and kashmir respectively.
